Competition Results

While the Martial Arts Academy focuses on teaching PRACTICAL street-wise self-defense, many students find they enjoy the challenge of testing themselves against other Martial Artists. There are three categories of competition at the Martial Arts Academy. Tae-Kwon Do or Kick Boxing style Sparring, which is what most people are familiar with, Kata- an individual demonstration of proficiency using moves against imaginary opponents. Plus  Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Ground-fighting, which is like wrestling, only there are fewer rules. You win by making your opponent submit by "tapping out," or on points.  The Academy also fields several demo teams, which sometimes compete in self-defense or demonstration categories.

The following list is very incomplete, as we have only included the results of International Tournaments that our students have attended, and only recorded those students who placed 4th or higher. We hold three closed tournaments a year, where only students from schools affiliated with the Martial Arts Academy are permitted to compete. After our October tournament, results from those competitions will be included here as well.

1997 Spring School Tournament

This was our fourth annual "Easter" tournament, a closed, students only contest which was preceded by an Easter egg hunt for the little ones. Always a favorite event, and a great time for all.

Charles Millar.

This year was a great one for the students of the Academy who competed in this prestigious open International Tournament. Eleven of the Thirteen students who competed placed in the 1st-3rd elite, and took home some nice trophies. All had a great time, and Sensei Roe is extremely proud to be the teacher of such a great team. Even more importantly, the other competitors and officials commented on the spirit and demeanor of our students, even saying that they were glad to see that there still are schools that teach the true meaning and spirit of the Martial Arts. Now that's something to be proud of.

bulletProfessor Roe congratulates all of the students who participated in these tournaments, and the many tournaments we have held over the years that are not listed here. Whatever the result of a test in competition, the student is ultimately made stronger and wiser. Whether victorious or not, the student grows within and is made more complete in character by the experiences and challenges faced on the field of honor.
